From the advent of modern psychiatry to the present day, mental illness has been deeply misunderstood by the public. Dr. Sebat’s educational work has addressed misconceptions in the community about the causes of mental illness.

In addition to regular communication through public lectures in the lay community and on social media, we have produced educational videos on psychiatric genetics and personalized medicine, engaged in public dialogue debunking the link between vaccines and autism, and actively participated in political advocacy in support of science based policy making.
